March Misc

Jenna has started gymnastics and so one day after her class she and I had a date at McDonalds for an ice-cream cone.

Jenna and Grant have become great playmates together.  For the most part, they play well together and really seem to enjoy one another. 

(Oops...these are out of order.)  Hannah at 4 weeks.

They're so captivated by her - they just love being close to her, especially Jenna!

Smiles!  (Although I'm pretty sure the smiles had nothing to do with us and more to do with gas bubbles in her tummy.)

More snuggles with my baby - or should I say, "babies".  Bailey just had to squeeze onto my lap as well.

Love this shirt I got that is also a baby carrier.  I was able to hold her close to me, especially when she was too tiny for the regular baby carriers.

St. Patrick's Day

We celebrated St. Patrick's Day a little late this year.  I debated skipping it altogether this year, but I had some fun things planned for the kids that I wanted to do with them.

Of course we had to have corned beef for dinner, along with broccoli (green), and a rainbow shaped fruit dish.  Jenna ran upstairs just before dinner and brought down green shirts for Grant and herself (without me knowing).  Too funny!

I also dyed their milk green and added a fun four-leaf clover straw.

 Poor Grant was EXHAUSTED and fell asleep at the dinner table (Please excuse the messy table!!)

For dessert I made a knock-off of McDonald's green shamrock shake.  Jenna loved it!  We couldn't wake Grant up enough for him to try it.  :)

Then the kids had to find some treasures (green St. Pat's necklaces, and gold and green coins) under the rainbow in their bathtub. 

Jenna loved it, but poor Grant was still quite "out of it."  I would have just put him to bed, but he needed a bath....so I just gave him a quick bath and got him out.  Honestly, he was so tired, I was afraid he was going to fall asleep in the tub!

We also read some St. Patrick's Day books. 

Some of the books were just fun, whimsical stories about leprechauns, rainbows, and golden treasures, but a few were stories of the historical account of Saint Patrick himself.  Interesting that he was a Christian missionary to the people of Ireland.

Easter Activities

Over the past week we've done some fun Easter activities...

 Drew's uncle and aunt gave us these Resurrection Eggs to use with the kids in anticipation of Easter.  Inside each egg is a symbol from the story of Christ's death on the cross and resurrection.  I found a book that goes along with it - Benjamin's Box by Melody Carlson.  Each day we read a "chapter" of the book and then opened the egg that corresponded.  Jenna enjoyed reading the story each day, and really understood it.  It's a great activity for teaching the true meaning of Easter - Christ's resurrection!

I saw the idea on Pinterest of  putting glow sticks inside Easter eggs and then hunting for them with the lights off.  It looked like so much fun, I just had to give it a try.  The bracelet glow sticks I had were too long to fit inside the eggs, so I cut them in half and taped up the ends so the liquid didn't leak out.  It worked...pretty well.  I probably wouldn't try this again unless we were hunting them outside.  It was something different to try and the kids enjoyed it.

I had the best of intentions of doing some school activities related to Easter and jellybeans, but it just didn't happen.  We did get to graph the jellybean colors though!  And we had a taste test and tried each color.  Jenna's favorite was....pink, of course!

We did our own Easter egg hunt in the backyard on Saturday when the weather was nice.  The kids LOVED it and wanted to do it over and over again.  Then they hid the eggs for us and made us hunt for them.  Grant didn't quite understand that we were to find them on our own - he kept running around the yard picking them up.  :)

Another Pinterest find - we had a lunch Easter egg hunt.  I put a small portion of their lunch in some eggs and then hid them in the family room for them to find.  

On Sunday we went to Paw-Paw and Maw-Maw's house and they also held an Easter egg hunt for the kids.  We thought the weather was nice, so we didn't bring any coats for the kids; however, it had gotten a little chilly, so Maw-Maw gave Grant her fleece to wear.  I love how it dwarfs him!  

The kids also dyed some eggs at church on Friday, but I was too busy keeping my eye on the kids that I didn't snap any pictures.  All-in-all it was a fun week!
