The Unexpected

As most everyone who reads this blog already knows, we are expecting baby #2. I am currently 12 weeks along and have been feeling alright for the first trimester - occasional nausea and tiredness, but that's to be expected. Well, this past weekend we had a "scare" and made a trip to the ER Saturday night thinking we might have miscarried the baby. During the ultrasound we saw that our baby was still alive and quite active and the heartbeat looked good. So that relieved our immediate concerns; however, I was still having issues on Sunday and called my doctor on Monday to schedule an appointment, hoping to learn more about what's going on. During our visit to the doctor we found out that our baby was alright and looking good (YAY!), but also that we actually had indeed miscarried...apparently we were expecting TWINS! Of course this came as a shock to us because we had no idea. The doctor informed us that the baby that miscarried was most likely only a few cells (too tiny to see) that hadn't been growing or developing; however, the sac had been growing. So in the ultrasound we could see two sacs - one on top of the other - one with a baby and one without.

Although it's sad to learn that we did miscarry, we are so thankful that we still have a baby on the way! God is good!! We look forward to meeting Baby B sometime around July 30th (yes, our due date got moved up a little).

Happy Birthday Jenna!

Wow...I need to get caught up on here! I'll start at Jenna's birthday and work backwards from there (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Kelley's wedding, and all the fun stuff in between).

I can't believe our little girl has turned 1 already! Her birthday was Saturday, January 2nd, so we had a party for her that Saturday from 11:30-2:00. After I sent out the invitations I realized that her party would fall during the time she was born - at 1:32 pm. So we decided to wait and sing Happy Birthday to her at 1:32. :) We kept the party small and just invited family in the area - Jenna's grandparents, aunt and uncle, great aunts and uncles, and great grandparents. She got a lot of nice gifts (thanks everyone!) and she was especially fun to watch open her gifts. She had improved since Christmas and was now pulling tissue paper out of bags and ripping wrapping paper off of boxes. Too funny! We went with a cupcake theme for her party and had cupcake invitations that I made, her cupcake dress, cupcake decorations, and of course cupcakes for dessert!

This was Jenna's first taste of chocolate...she LOVED it! She definitely takes after her mother. :) She just kept shoveling handfuls into her mouth.

Jenna also started walking a week before her birthday, so here's a picture of her "teetering" along. We'll upload a video here soon of her walking.

Happy birthday Jenna! We love you!!

Lots of pictures

Sorry it's been a while since we last updated. Things are very busy right now. We're actually just about to leave for Chicago for a friend's wedding this weekend. Then my sister gets married in 2 weeks and there are LOTS of things to do to get ready for that. Plus I've decided to make Jenna's Halloween costume instead of buying one. She's going to be a pink crayon. :) So needless to say, we're both keeping very busy. I just had to update with some pictures of Jenna before we leave...here you go!

We knew we wanted to get some "fall" pictures with the pumpkins, but when we got there Jenna was very distracted by the other kids. We could barely get her to even look at the camera, nonetheless smile. She just loves to watch other kids. Funny girl!

Jenna is constantly pulling herself up to a standing position. She'll let go sometimes and stand for a few seconds by herself, though I don't think she's quite ready to stand completely by herself...her legs are still a little wobbly. She has discovered the stairs and will now go up them whenever she wants to. I definitely have to keep an eagle eye on her now. Before she'd crawl past them and think nothing of it. The other day I was sitting at the computer and saw her go around the corner. I usually know what she's doing based on the noises she makes, so when she wasn't making any noises I knew something was up. I go around the corner and find her halfway up the stairs!! Talk about making my heart skip a beat! Lesson learned. :) Jenna has also discovered how to open cabinets and drawers, so we've had to baby proof a few cabinets in the kitchen.

Jenna has also decided she doesn't want to be spoon-fed anymore. She wants to feed herself. So we're now cutting up little pieces of food for her to eat. She especially loves peas...she must have gotten that from her daddy! I know I say this every time, but it's so fun to watch her grow and develop. She's becoming a big girl! In fact, she just had her 9-month checkup and the doctor said she's the size of a 14-month old! She's 20 1/2 lbs, 29 inches and quickly outgrowing her 12-month clothes. Oh, and Jenna now has 7 teeth!! They just keep popping out. My mom says she's getting them out so she can eat some turkey dinner here soon. :)

She still loves playing with Bailey, although Bailey still feels the same about her. :) She'll grab his toys and swing them around in his face and just squeal and giggle. I hope one day Bailey will play back with her. She also has really enjoyed her books lately. In fact, she's in the other room now looking through one of her books and giggling. She especially loves it when she sees a dog in the books.

She now can say "da" (dad) and "daw" (dog)...yep, she can't say mom, but she can say dog. Didn't see that one coming...we're working on "mama" now. :) It's funny though. She's really noticed picture frames lately. When she sees the ones with mommy and daddy in them, she'll point and say "da" (and of course then I point to myself and keep repeating "mama"). And she seems to notice the pictures of herself too. She also recognizes dogs and dogs barking and will sometimes respond by saying "daw" and pointing. Too funny!

Well, that's all I can think of for now. Hope you enjoyed the update!

Kelley's Bridal Shower

My cousin Amanda and I threw a bridal shower for Kelley this past Sunday. Here are some pictures from the shower. I was so busy "working" the shower that I didn't get any good close-up shots of Kelley!! :(
