Week 25 - Letter K

Once again I'm playing catch-up!  We did the letter K THREE weeks ago!

Our memory verse that week was Psalm 34:13 - "Keep your tongue from evil."  Another great verse that we can apply on a daily basis!  :)

Phonics page - she does GREAT sounding out the pictures and circling the correct ones.  She doesn't even need my help anymore.

Prewriting practice

Since it was letter K, we played the game Memory using Hershey Kisses.

I put stickers on the bottom and labeled them with lower and upper-case letters.  It was good practice, and a yummy treat!

Jenna made the letter K with her body.

Letter writing - Jenna did a good job writing her "k's", but then Grant got a hold of the paper and decided to add to it.

For her ABC book, Jenna put Kisses on the letter K.  I think she enjoyed using Mommy's lipstick!

I LOVE this Kumon number writing book!  I have seen such progress in her number writing.  We do one page (front and back) each day.

Jenna copied the kite pattern all by herself.  It definitely helps when I only show her one line at a time.  Otherwise it's too overwhelming for her to look at the whole thing and try to copy it.

Jenna made the letter K on the geoboard.

Roll a Kite game - Jenna rolls a die and then looks at the "key" on the page as to which kite piece to get.  Then she starts assembling the kite. 

We added the letter K to the coconut tree.

Some "K" books we read this week.

 Since it was K week, we just had to fly our Kites!  Both Jenna and Grant got kites in their Easter baskets, so it was the perfect opportunity to use them...and we had the perfect weather too!  Not too cold and lots of wind.  The kids had a blast, as did Drew and myself.

 

Hannah - 2 months old

Today Hannah turned 2 months old!  Hard to believe two months have already passed.  She had her well-child visit today and weighed in at 10 lbs, 1 oz (25th percentile)  and 22 1/2 inches long (50th percentile). 

She has started smiling at us and following objects around her.  We have only heard her "coo" a few times and still get quite a few grunts instead.  :)  She's quite gassy and fussy, which could just be part of her temperament right now, but the doctor wants me to take dairy out of my diet for the next two weeks to see if she might have a sensitivity to it.  I have to admit, I love my dairy - milk, cheese, ice-cream...oh my!  It will definitely be a challenge, especially with cooking and being mindful of what ingredients are in meals, but it's worth it if it can help Hannah feel better.  I did decide to wait a week before dropping dairy since my birthday is next Saturday.  Makes me think of part of a Brian Regan skit, "No cake, no ice-cream...happy birthday."  :)  Ha! 

 And just for comparison, I had to include pictures of all 3 kids at 2 months of age.  I always thought Hannah looked quite a bit like Jenna, but when comparing the two pictures, I think Hannah definitely has her own "look."

Week 24 - Letter L

Last week was Letter L - for ladybug.

The memory verse was Matthew 5:16 - "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Coloring page - she wrote Dad and Mom at the top.  :)

These are still difficult for her to do on her own, but great practice.

Phonics page - she does really well with these!

I love this Kumon number writing book!  I've noticed her number writing improving.

Letter L do-a-dot

We've started working on learning to read.  I picked up the first set of Bob books at a garage sale.  Each book introduces a new letter and it's sound.  Then that book only uses those letters in the story.  Then the next book introduces a few new letters and uses the letters from the previous book(s) as well as the new ones, so it keeps building with the letters.  It's been neat to see her picking up on sounding out the words, although she tends to look at the pictures on each page and make up what she thinks the words say instead of sounding them out.  Or she'll add words that aren't there.  So it's a process of having her point to each word, encouraging her to sound out the letters and then go back and reread it.  It's definitely a process, but neat to see her learning!
