San Diego Sans Kids

Back in June, Drew had 2 back-to-back business trips to San Diego, Monday through Friday both weeks.  So we looked into the cost of me flying out Friday-Tuesday for a mini-vacation without the kids.  Typically Drew just comes home over the weekend between the trips, but if it's cheaper for him to stay over the weekend then the government will pay for all his expenses.  It did turn out to be cheaper for him to stay over the weekend and when we looked into a flight for me, with all our mileage credit, it ended up costing us only $20 roundtrip!!!  So it was a no-brainer!  Drew even found an amazing resort with rooms at the government rate (which means we stayed there FREE).

My wonderful parents watched the kids for us while I was away - such a blessing!!  I arrived Friday evening and flew back early Tuesday morning.  It was so refreshing spending time together, doing what we wanted to do, and actually having full conversations without being interrupted.  ;)  I brought along our portable DVD player, so we enjoyed some Redbox movies from the comfort of our bed (something we're not used to since we don't have a TV in our bedroom).   Of course we also hit up the beach a few times, went on a nice, long hike, and enjoyed some delicious food.  Drew's brother, Brian, informed us of a restaurant in San Diego owned by Brian Malarkey, a former contestant from Top Chef.  And if you know me at all, you know I'm a HUGE fan of Top Chef, so we made a point to eat there one night.  All-in-all it was a wonderful weekend!

The view from our balcony - just beautiful!!

Enjoying a nice hike to the beach

Just look at the ocean in the background!  Not something you see everyday in Troy, Ohio.  ;)

Walking along the beach

Again...beautiful!

Adventurous Drew exploring the sea life in the tide pools.

Watch out for the wave!

We spent an afternoon at the resort pool.

It was sooo relaxing!!  I can't remember the last time we were able to read and nap at the pool.  Soooo nice!

Another walk along the beach

We also went to a movie theater with reclining chairs and a server that would actually come to your seat.  Amazing!!

Our server took our picture reclining in our chairs.
An appetizer from Brian Malarkey's restaurant, Burlap.

I'm one happy girl...can you tell?  (And a little sunburned... CA sun is definitely different from OH sun)

The main dish - wish I could remember the names of all the dishes.  Drew and I decided to just order an assortment of things and share them all.  I'm so glad we did - it was all delicious!!

The 2 sides that we ordered

We asked if Brian Malarkey was in the restaurant, but apparently he had just opened another restaurant in San Diego and was over there that evening.

A picture we took while hanging out at an outdoor mall.

A great weekend away, but it was nice getting back to the kids!

Sky Diving

I think most everyone who checks our blog has already seen these pictures, but I figured I'd add them just in case.  For Drew and my Dad's birthday, my mom, sister, and I went in together and bought them both skydiving tickets.  It's something they've both wanted to do so why not do it together?!

The following are pictures I took with our camera...

We decided to purchase the video and picture package from the skydiving company since they'd get some up close and personal shots while in midair.  We're so glad we did!   The rest of the pictures are from the skydiving company.

And here's Drew's video of him skydiving!
